Baby Gramps a bona fide, genuine character on American musical scene

“The green room was interesting because of three photos on the wall: the debut of the Beatles and Rolling Stones, and Dylan’s audition before he cancelled. It was exciting to play the same stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater that they debuted on.”

In virtually every photo and video one can see of Baby Gramps, he is playing vintage National guitars – and, perhaps in keeping in line with his own bona fide, genuine character, he insists on only playing the real things.

“I have several old wellworn authentic Nationals – all are original blues guitars from the ’20s and ’30s. Each one of my albums has a different National on the cover – I don’t play new replicas.”
